Pourquoi notre parfum n’est pas 100% naturel (et pourquoi c’est une bonne chose)

Why Our Perfume Isn't 100% Natural (And Why That's a Good Thing)

At Folia , nature is our muse. Our very name – “Folia,” meaning “leaf” in Latin – reflects our deep respect for life and biodiversity. But paradoxically, we chose not to create a 100% natural fragrance. Here’s why.

Why aren't we 100% natural?

Certain natural ingredients, such as sandalwood or vanilla, are in high demand. Their intensive cultivation can require pesticides, large quantities of water, or monocultures that threaten local biodiversity.

By reproducing them identically in the laboratory, we avoid this overexploitation and protect fragile ecosystems.

Furthermore, certain ingredients of animal origin, such as animal musk or ambergris (derived from sperm whales), are incompatible with our vegan values. Replacing them with identical molecules reproduced in the laboratory allows us to protect animals while preserving the rich fragrance.

Green chemistry also allows us to stabilize our compositions, ensuring that the fragrance remains true and long-lasting. The result: a high-quality fragrance that respects the planet.

Our balance

We believe in a smart balance: using natural ingredients when it is virtuous, and preferring the biomimetic synthetic alternative when it is more ethical for nature, animals and water resources.

At Folia , we believe that a responsible perfume is one that dares to make choices. And we want you, our customers, to understand and share them.
